11. Zombies - Coming back from the dead is a classic horror trope (some of the earliest horrors fall here), so its a must in the canon, even if I tend to not love this subgenre. A few of my favourites: Night of the Living Dead (1968) Dawn of the Dead (2004) Train to Busan 28 Years Later

10. Sci-Fi Horror - For many people this seems to be their favourite flavour of horror as it will involve space or creatures from space, and is often a bit lower on gore. A few of my favourites: Alien The Blob (1988) The Thing (1982) Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

9. Psychological Horror - This subgenre tends to be the most widely accessible since gore and splatter turn many people off and movies in this stream tend to be high in atmosphere and chills and low on blood. A few of my favourites: Session 9 The Vanishing (1988) Red Rooms Goodnight Mommy (2014)

8. Horror Sequel - Horror franchises are known for going dramatically downhill as they sequelize themselves, but there are definitely still some gems out there, a few even better than the original. A few of my favourites: Scream 2 Smile 2 Final Destination 5 Terrifier 2

7. Found Footage - Possibly my favourite horror subgenre as it really seems to be one of the only types of horror that still has the potential to actually scare me in some way. A few of my favourites: The Outwaters Blair Witch Project Lake Mungo Host
