I think a lot of it's an artifact of the way the schedule turns out. Most of the worst tracks for a car whose strength is medium-speed corners are in a single lump which is right now. McLaren don't get back to tracks they should be good at until Brazil.

Looking at the statistical probabilities, Verstappen's chance of winning the title is still quite low. But feelings-wise, it definitely feels like he's most likely to win. I think this is down to a sense of inevitableness - he's clearly an all-time great - and McLaren still making mistakes.
