I am now several years older than Gus Speth was in that 1981 video. I met him in 2014 when he wrote his memoir “Angels by the River” and spoke at WRI with a couple others who had worked there in the 1980s and were involved with international climate work pre-UNFCCC. All retired by then. Humbling.

Btw, anyone working on climate for the next 30 years is basically signed up for pushing and pushing and pushing to get the world on a better path while the climate changes and changes and changes. Marathon, not sprint, as they say.

This quarter, I taught a brand new elective class: Public Policy for Social Welfare. Going into it, I had a lot of anxiety given the current political climate, defunding and deprioritizing of *public policy for social welfare* etc. But I read my students' final reflections this morning and sobbed.
