I think the buried lede with a lot of these is stuff like autonomous driving and same-day delivery aren't logistically feasible without another revenue source... they're things which exist to create demand for a service which can then be used for mass surveillance.

Without same-day delivery, that need is filled by corner stores. Without autonomous driving cars you rely on public transit and taxi services. Uber exists so it can sell your data. Not to sell rides.

Those little delivery robots are too! Everything is selling data. And these things just roam around DTLA scanning thousands of faces when they're not making deliveries. They absolutely roll through our neighborhood all the time.

Waymo is cops. It's a remote control car data scraper and surveillance system pretending to be a cab. The secondary revenue stream is you paying for a ride. The main source is selling data. And they're dangerous as hell. I'm always amazed how many people are unwilling to see that shit.
