On balance I think I need to just leave academia and get a different job (what?) because I feel like such a massive failure and I am not living the life I want to be living. This is the reality of being a precarious academic in the UK.

I’m so tired. I’m so sad. I’m so angry. I’m so frustrated. I worry for my children and their ability to go to university and study whatever they want even if that thing is Classics or history or philosophy or a modern language. They won’t be able to if things keep going they way they are going.

Further to this: I feel so despondent today. My career and the careers of many of my friends are crumbling around us and no one outside the academy cares about it. I have dedicated my life to something, I love what I do, and I’m really good at it, and none of it matters.
