Your response only tells me that you really don’t know what innovation meant in 15th and 16th century. Leonardo was very innovative in his own way; his notebooks tell us that very clearly. His paintings were innovative in techniques and visual thinking. SM represents everything L’s art was against.
Show PostBesides the Last Supper, L never painted in perfect symmetry. Even in the Last Supper L used a nice wavy flow across. There is no other painting (much less any portrait-like one) by L that uses perfect symmetry. L never followed the style or conventions of other painters (Dürer, Gossaert, Menling)👇🏻
Show PostI have read their opinions and all of those look like art critics’ opinions. Art History does the work with sources and historical proofs. As an art historian myself, I’d never dared to asure that painting was a L considering the evidence available. A lot of interests were involved, for sure 🫤
Show Post''Read closely, the claim is less categorical than its headline, which announces flatly that the picture is “not by Leonardo”. The same text says Leonardo’s name came immediately after Boltraffio’s in the system’s ranking of candidates — his score undisclosed''. Well that is suspicious.
