The average teosinte genome is both 1) bigger than the maize reference and 2) missing 10 Arabidopsis genomes worth of sequence present in the reference maize genome. Structural variation is a ^$%&*^$@

Kids' afterschool club was talking about how they could make sand for their beach area. Our 6 y.o. chirps up that they could get a bunch of parrotfish poop after they've eaten coral. Proud dad moment.
