Grunge (as it was labeled/marketed by the mainstream media). Eventually, I came around in the late #90s, but during the genre’s peak early in the decade, I found the music to be dark, ominous, and depressing. At that time, I was into New Jack Swing, conscious rap, hip-hop soul, and Top 40 club hits.
