Sometimes strangers say awful things to me and I usually ignore it or laugh it off so the situation doesn't escalate. I was feeling like, "Maybe I should stand up for myself more!" and then I saw someone call the visual-impairment accessible crosswalk voice "a fucking bitch" for telling him to wait.

He didn't do this for no reason. And we always preach "community" and shit, but when someone fucks up we are very quick to act like they are an outsider who is a threat to "us." I'm like, that's my kid I've taught for years who I'll never see again because "we" failed him.

Having some complicated feelings this morning. (Everyone is fine, but) one of my students brought a gun to school on Friday. Now all the staff is fighting about security measures. I'm like, where is the love for this kid? What about prevention? Where should we have intervened before this happened?
