What I think about this is: For black parents, there’s no one clear correct answer. My parents chose the other route and while it worked out academically, I was mostly unhappy with my educational experience and missed going to school with my friends in our neighborhood.

90 percent of my writing is about american law, history, constitutionalism and the overall political system. but dreher and the people like him (and frankly quite a few others) are basically incapable of seeing that.

I'm not posting this in some fit of "Oh god, if this is the future of filmmaking we're all doomed" esthetic despair. It's more enthrallment. I'm looking at someone who does the thing I've spent my life writing about and loving, but shares no language about it with me. It's fearful and humbling.
