I used to work with an absolutely brilliant surgeon who had to be taught how to order a pizza over the phone and thought I was basically a wizard bc she once gave me some mint & I made/canned mint jelly for her from it. If you max out in a specialty, you have no room left for basic thought/skills 😭

My opa was a literal rocket scientist during the space race. Couldn't figure out how to start his riding mower. He took it apart and rebuilt it before his neighbor told him he had to be in the seat to start it. A favorite thanksgiving story.

One of my workplaces is staffed entirely by PhDs. The office kitchen has a sign by the toaster. It reads: Please do not butter bread before placing in toaster. Lemme tell you. Signs like that don’t happen because ONE person did it ONE time.
