What if bacteria were using wax esters to shape skin microbiomes? Staphylococcal lipases convert skin antimicrobial fatty acids into harmless wax esters. This publication is the very first first-author paper for my first PhD student, my first time acting as last author, and our first ISME paper.

So happy to share our paper! We tackle a long-standing question: what shapes dominant microbiome signatures? Using synthetic gut communities, we uncovered a synergy between Enterobacteriaceae and dietary components that promotes Segatella copri in gut microbiomes. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
