George Carlin's body of work stopped being comedy and became dark philosophy at least for me many years ago. The same thing happened to Bill Hicks even earlier.

I watched the American: Bill Hicks documentary the other night. His life paralleled mine. A few steps his way and I would probably be a semi-retired comic. After my partner received a few major shocks from a faulty microphone, he quit performing and I did a couple of solo shows. Then it wasn’t fun.

The youthful audience was not stupid, we were pretty well informed back then you know, we had the cultural teachings of Bill Hicks, Mark Thomas, Chris Morris, Jo Brand, and many other fine comedians that held mirrors up to society. Remember, Sacha Baron Cohen showed us the MAGA movement in 2004.
