Speaking of the mainstream attention to therianthropy, here are some of the things that have happened since the tiktok kids got into the community. Before starting: I'm happy that kids are crafting, playing outdoors, connecting with nature! Kids are kids, let them play. Keep them of social media?

Finnish media tried to create a moral panic about "therian kids", after one school had banned the use of masks as well as sending a reminder to guardian that children that yes, kids need to wear shoes when playing in the schoolyard. However, it was short-lived and most people probably didn't care.

Swedish media latched on to therianthropy, apparently separately from the Finnish one. The perspective wasn't about school dress codes, but about children's mental health. The tone was slightly positive, but news stories focused VERY much on 9-13 year olds, treating it as a "kids trend"...

Which in turn lead to coworkers of mine dropping disparaging comments about "kids who think they're cats and dogs". Rumours about "those kids" barking at people, or being taken to vets instead of doctors when sick. They had no idea that they were sitting with a therian when gossiping about this.
