like most things my intuition is that the internet has made this worse - more parents have gone down some awful social media rabbit hole these days to the point that their children feel like they need to cut them off so, of course, they complain about it in the newspaper

Quite the assumption in the last one that parents who caused traumatic childhoods have no overlap with parents who believe they did their best. Do they think that all parents who cause childhood trauma deliberately and knowingly *set out* to do that?
