If you can't, please consider that not knowing this basic history shoots us all in the foot
Show PostSo many people come into transition, thinking the trans community started the DAY THEY TRANSITIONED And no history before that matters This has a profound cultural and institutional impact on the fight for trans equality... Causing us to take 5 steps back for every 1 step forward
Show PostI see this come up all the time, when I see fights from when I first transitioned start up again things like: * Needing to re-litigate the detransitioner numbers (www.gendergp.com/blog/detrans...) * Wanting to re-litigate expression of sexuality (eg/ no kink at pride) ... The list goes on and on
Show PostI feel like the trans community is unique in this respect So many of us leave the community and assimilate leaving those who come after behind At the same time so many of us forget to look to the past at those who came before us I feel so often we repeat the past, forgetting lessons we've learned
Show PostAgain and again. This isn't a "listen to your elders" rant. This is a "be aware of who came before, and know the struggles and battles they fought" The younger generation of trans people will always have more innovative and better ideas But with out knowing the past, we are doomed to repeat it
