Even the rent freeze pledge isn't an actual reduction. It's a holding in place. You have to be caught trying and work on what you can, but again the public is very clear "I want prices for things to actually go down, not just stop increasing" and delivering that is genuinely hard.
Show PostYes, the way to attack the problem is to focus on areas of cost you do have direct control over. The Mamdani rent freeze pledge was a great example. Same with utilities in the NJ gubernatorial race. But these are, let's be honest, relatively small slices of people's overall costs.
Show PostThe fact that the public *overwhelmingly* wants the actual price level to fall, and for prices to go down across the board is important info about public opinion, but also more than a little tricky to try to implement!
