One time I had to check into a hotel with a person I'd been seeing but before we'd actually defined the relationship and in a panic I uttered the phrase 'My companion and I...' so instead of enjoying a romantic getaway we ended up solving a cosy murder in the English countryside instead.

Hate living in this era of corporate criminals. I miss when criminals had mohawks and wore leather vests and rollerskates and would be in gangs called things like The Merry Knives of Windsor. Now we just have some guy called Josh who has chinos and a laptop.

Everyone who’s had a loved animal friend knows this feeling. We lost our very dear 18 year old cat this morning. Chasey was bold and adventuresome young, a regal but affectionate snuggler later. Sorrow for us, and tears, but awareness of great good fortune. We said goodnight, goodbye, thank you.

There’s a song that does NOT fit Chasey’s passing today, except the first two lines… ‘Oh, have you seen my dear companion/For she was all this world to me…’ I keep getting those words when I think about her now. She always came up on the bed at night, on my right hip, for reading time.
