The paper is a serious attempt on the part of the author to put their work into a rigorous form. You can do the same with a git repo but people mostly don't. When they do, there is sometimes prestige attached
Show PostI think this is not a good model of how knowledge accumulates! Most of science is just confirming that what we thought should be true is true. This is extremely critical because otherwise we don't get to find out where our models are wrong
