The Trump admin claims it found 20,000 possible noncitizens on the voting rolls in California and is seeking a court order forcing the state to segregate every ballot sent to those individuals. Remember what happened the last time they made wild claims like this? DHS has ZERO credibility here.

Also, this is a VERY weak legal theory for why DOJ can file this lawsuit. In short, DOJ says that because noncitizen voting is a federal crime, if California doesn’t immediately segregate possible noncitizen votes, that violates the Supremacy Clause by impliedly preempting federal law… which, huh?!
