One of my biggest pet peeves as a person trained in CPR/first aid is them showing a person going through CPR and then "waking up" and being fine. That's not what happens. CPR keeps your heart going so you can get to further help. It does not cure you.

That's why a lot of kids don't come forward. They know that there will be people out there that won't believe them or will try to second-guess them. My own father used to tell close friends that my mom brainwashed me. He sidestepped the subject even on his deathbed.

I’m so sorry. I’m one of the lucky ones who got to confront my abuser and he didn’t deny it. Turned out he’d been raped as a child too and never told anyone before my confrontation stirred things up.
