And they built housing co-ops that *still* welcome incredibly diverse communities — the one where we live sits at the intersection of century+ old Jewish, Chinese-American, Dominican & Puerto Rican communities, is a naturally-occurring retirement community for elders, and hosts a community garden.

(As long as I’m bragging on our neighborhood — did you know we’ve been successful in bringing back many pollinators thanks to careful tending of our green spaces, and as a result, local producers like Andrew’s Honey now make Lower East Side honey? It’s what’s in my tea *right now*.)
