NBB is a department steeped in the history of neuroethology and the conviction that all investigations of the brain must be grounded in behaviors of direct relevance to an organism's life history. Come join this fantastic group. Perhaps we can be like ships passing in the night?

First whole-brain recording of social sound processing in a vertebrate. Surprises start in the hindbrain; thalamus gates conspecific calls; male and female brains diverge downstream. Work by @joerghenninger.bsky.social, @mh123.bsky.social sky.social and team. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

New paper alert! 🚨 We found that the brain's compass is remarkably stable at two scales 1️⃣ the system maintains its internal organization for weeks 2️⃣ It "remembers" its orientation for weeks, even after a single visit This may be key to how the brain aligns its other maps. Paper: rdcu.be/e3waP

🧠 Zebrafish compass neurons learn visual anchoring. Using panoramic virtual reality and two-photon imaging, we show that larval #zebrafish head-direction neurons track complex visual scenes. 🔗Read a summary of the study on our website: www.synergy-munich.de/news-events/...

the convergence (both evolutionarily and socio-scientifically) of the head direction encoding systems in the zebrafish habenula and fly central complex is one of my favorite corners of neuroscience to watch right now 🍿
