@doorclam.bsky.socialOne thing I find funny about the Direct Method is how much the teacher has to explain without translating 😂🍎 If students don’t understand a word, the teacher has to use objects, actions or examples instead. It makes the lesson more active, but I can see why it can be difficult to use. #CATBL26
Show PostThe Audio Lingual Method caught my attention. Learning through repetition, drills, and reinforcement shows the influence of behaviourism. Repeat something enough times and maybe it stays in your head forever. It’s interesting how ideas about learning shaped the way languages were taught. #CATBL26
Show PostEnglish has grown beyond the UK/US/Australia bubble. So, how long are we going to keep teaching it as a monocultural language? English is everywhere, woven into people’s lives across the globe. Shouldn’t language teaching reflect the world English actually belongs to?
Show PostTeacher guidance is necessary, but it's equally important to create opportunities for students to use the language in the classroom. Introducing gestures, non-verbal cues, visual aids or games can help create a safe and supporting environment in which they feel confident enough to use it. #CATBL26
