*I guess maybe that reflects its position relative to the French and Flemish regions of Belgium?* Not really. “Midi” means “middle of day”, not generally “middle”. And that railway station is northerly in Wallonia (the French region) and rather south of Vlanders.

If I am not mistaken, “midi” (literally noon) can mean south in French. I used to have a pen pal who said she lived in the midi, by which she meant the south of France. It’s a bit like in some languages „morning“ means “east” and “evening” “west”.
