I'm tempting the gods here, but I do sort of think that 'Doctor Who being made on a more limited budget' has the potential to be very good for British TV, in that it might free TV bosses from the (IMV unhelpful and wrongheaded) idea that everything needs to be a glossy co-production to succeed.

Has anyone *watched* any of those dreadful Netflix crime dramas that adapt* American thrillers to the UK? They look incredibly cheap, and indeed are. They're still very successful! Meanwhile, more and more of the BBC's creative output is being run on 'huge money, for fewer and fewer people'.

*I use the word 'adapt' very generously, in that the ones I've watched, admittedly only for work so perhaps I just saw a unrepresentative sample, are full of 'people with British accents saying American things, with plots that do not work with either English or Scottish law around guns or whatever'.
