listening to this and the Edward Bernays bit jumped out to me bc there's a genealogy to that fixation – ask a random sample of people who've heard of Bernays where they've heard of him and 90% will say Adam Curtis, who treats him as basically the inventor of the Adbusters version of Spectacle
