A recent find in Virginia. The back is signed “H. Cowles” and dated December 21, 1949 - New York. The woman depicted is written as Jane Cantoare, possible misspelling of Cantore. I found a Jane Santi Cantore from New Haven, CT. She would have been 22 at the time of the painting if this is her.
