Today would’ve been my father’s 95th birthday. In search of a better life, he came to America with only $2.43 and a Korean-English dictionary. He had no friends or family here. Like many immigrants, he dreamt of the promise of what this country could offer. Each day I work to honor his memory.

We have been together for 40 years, but we couldn’t get married legally as “husband & husband” until 2008, thanks to a ruling by the California Supreme Court that found the state ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional.
