Higo Mokkosu combines Higo, the old name for Kumamoto, with mokkosu, meaning “stubborn.” Yet in Kumamoto, it is also a compliment for someone who is steadfast, trustworthy, and true to their convictions. Ippon-gi means staying true to one path, never giving up or compromising.
Show PostYesterday, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Kumamoto, Japan. The next day, Kumamoto native Munetaka Murakami hit a game-tying 23rd homer in the 8th at Chicago’s Rate Field. The White Sox beat the Yankees 6–5 with a walk-off in the 12th. Watching the game, I was reminded of the phrase “Higo Mokkosu”
