@derifatives.bsky.socialNew preprint: Does Integrated Information Theory (IIT) make experimental predictions about consciousness? Paper: osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/gauqm_v1 Blog post for summary: davidpreichert.substack.com/p/iit-experimental-predictions 1/3
Show PostOur approach is to grant all of IIT’s theoretical premises, but then probe whether the experimental predictions follow. We hope this makes for a relatively clear argument that fairly engages with the theory. If we missed anything major, feel free to let us know! 3/3
Show PostThere’s been plenty of debate around IIT, but recently the question of experimental tests has come to the forefront. In the paper, we argue that IIT’s hypotheses about consciousness don’t appear to connect to what ongoing experiments are testing. 2/3

Show PostEach of these capabilities exceeds human performance, and that is exactly the point. People are not good at these tasks, and this is why we need computational help. We should be evaluating AI systems for these kinds of capabilities rather than given them IQ tests. Building AGI is a distraction end/
