We pooled data from studies that have used this paradigm (our work; Ciftci, @jfkominsky.bsky.social, & Csibra, 2025). When an individual was in distress, infants and toddlers from across the wide age range (4 to 19 months of age) looked more to someone who had shared saliva with that individual.
