Number 1 is where most of the pain hides. Vague scope leads to scope creep, which leads to resentment on both sides. I'd add: get the client to describe what "done" looks like in their own words before you start.

This is so true. Rule 4 should be: know if your client actually saw what you sent. The silence after sending a deliverable is where most freelancer anxiety lives.
