I think there’s a good paper to be written about how the AI industry (and tech more broadly) has a counter-knowledge imaginary of “data” that is disconnected from any empirical or material understanding of what data actually are in practice

MIT’s NANDA initiative found that 95% of generative AI deployments fail after interviewing 150 execs, surveying 350 workers, and analyzing 300 projects. The real “productivity gains” seem to come from layoffs and squeezing more work from fewer people not AI.

You'd think universities would have learned this from all the other supposedly time/money-saving tools they've invested in over the years that didn't pan out. The AI hype & bandwagon is so massive I fear the bubble bursting is going to be like nothing we've seen before. Mixed metaphors bad, ya'know?
