@mackinderlab.bsky.socialNice @jcellsci.bsky.social "at a glance" review about the convergently evolved organizing principles of pyrenoids, chloroplast compartments that enable diverse algae to supercharge #CO2 fixation. BONUS: It comes with a poster for your wall 🖼️. Great work @phaips.vd.st & @manondemulder.bsky.social 🌊🌾🧪
Show Post🌱🧬 Elevated CO₂ doesn't help all plants equally. Under competition, dominant species gain most; many others lose or stall. Acquisitive traits predict success. eCO₂ reshapes community dynamics. #plantscience @natplants.nature.com www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Show Post1/7 New preprint: we found that Chlamydomonas carries a giant and unexpectedly elaborate chloroplast RNA polymerase with 12 previously unknown subunits, overturning the idea that the complexity of this organellar enzyme emerged during plant terrestrialization! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Show PostTouring the Pacific researching my book on the origin & evolution of Life. Last stop was in Palau 🇵🇼 to see this photosynthetic jellyfish in Ongeim'l Tketau seawater lake. They don’t sting and exist entirely through the food from their pink/brown algal symbionts. They swim to stay in the sunlight.
