Good article about #BECCS by @mjflepage.bsky.social : www.newscientist.com/article/2522... "BECCS...is ridiculously expensive, would be catastrophic for biodiversity if it were done on this scale and... it doesn’t even work. It actually increases CO2 emissions...on the timescales that matter."

I've seen a plant using old creosote filled railroad ties as a source material, with an elementary school located nearby. I've seen plants using wood too green to burn so it sustains its burn with natural gas. Issues are higher carbon emissions than coal, severe local air pollution, & deforestation.

New research shows that burning wood pellets for electricity can emit more carbon pollution than some fossil fuels, yet the UK still hands out subsidies to energy giants like Drax to burn wood and call it clean energy.

No matter what #Drax says today, communities know the truth. People across the South are demanding an end to #biomass subsidies and #forest destruction. As Ms. Kathy England told Drax staff: “We are only armed with the truth… What is Drax so afraid of?”
