I do think it’s significantly more difficult to communicate that vaccines can prevent or reduce the risk of chronic illnesses as well as infectious disease, so I’ll just say this: I was 31 years old when I was diagnosed with a cancer (cervical) that can now be prevented with a vaccine (HPV).

And I was 32 years old when I was diagnosed with a chronic disease (MS) that is now known to be at least in part caused by an infectious agent (EBV), for which there will likely be a vaccine someday. My greatest wish is for what I’ve experienced to be consigned to the dustbin of history.
