The only thing the BBC has done in getting the ludicrous Richard Burgon on to attack Keir Starmer is prove how little it understands the Labour party and how poor its connections are within it. It's another huge fail.

Stepping down as President wouldn't "ruin" his life. That role is central to inviting and welcoming guests to speak and debate. Bit difficult to do that when you're famous for celebrating the death of a guest whose crime was to disagree with you in debate. Goes against the entire ethos of the OU.
