Let me add — I don't begrudge anyone who continues to do business with MRM, but as for me, they've burned through all the good will I had for them and second chances I've given them, and I won't extend them any more, regardless of whatever improved contracts they might be embarrassed into offering.
Show PostAsimov’s, to which I’ve been submitting for the fewest years, since the magazine only launched in 1977, has seen the largest number of submissions — 89! I did sell them a sonnet once, and always hoped I’d eventually follow that with a story as I did with Analog and F&SF, but alas, that’s not to be.
Show PostFrom 1972, when I was 17, until now, I submitted 26 stories to Analog, selling two, both in 2016 — meaning it took me 44 year to achieve that dream. I was surprised the number of submissions was that low, but I suppose I shouldn’t have been, since most of my stories haven't met their mandate.
Show PostNow that I've decided I can no longer stomach submitting to any MRM publications — because why would I want to do business with a publisher who only does the right thing when faced with an entire community erupting in outrage? — I decided to check my submission counts for Analog and Asimov as well.
Show PostLast year, after I finally made my first sale to F&SF but then had to withdraw the story due to an inability to negotiate an acceptable contract even after dozens of emails, I shared it had taken 85 submissions and 54 years of trying, which is why my decision, though necessary, was so heartbreaking.
