Hier kwam ik voor: recepten voor en beschrijvingen van voedsel dat geconserveerd werd meegenomen door VOC kooplieden om onderweg op te eten! Dit stuk gaat over ‘des frúgts genaamt fava,’ maar er wordt duidelijk iets anders bedoeld dan wat wij als fava-, tuin-, or paardenbonen kennen.
Show PostAnother very nice category of finds done in Enkhuizen are the barrels that are often reused in water wells. In this depot/museum there are also a number staves and also barrels. Yesterday I spoke to @Jeroen Oosterbaan about his fascinating research into barrels and brand marks. Later more...
Show Posta first look at this material teaches us that besides herring there are also remains of cod, eel, flatfish and carp. Of course this is only a first impression and further research will provide more clarity in the species distribution but also the processing of the fish.
Show PostThis morning I am not heading to the office but to Hilde's house (Huis van Hilde) in Castricum- this is the archaeological depot of North Holland, to collect material for further analysis. This depot simultaniously functions as museum.
