My husband had a great time asking ChatGPT what kind of research I do. ChatGPT gave a rather accurate summary of my main ideas, but could not find most of the bibliography I've published. Book chapters in particular were missing. Imagine... and we're taking AI seriously. #AcademicSky

the reason ChatGPT won't replace instructors is, as others have noted, that it can't credential you. everything that it can "replicate" you could already do through self-instruction (and I have! I've taught myself a number of skills i use professionally, but not the ones that are credentials)

In the near future economy, I bet the skill of “can type a prompt into ChatGPT and repeat whatever it says” will be less in demand than “understands things enough to catch when ChatGPT makes an error or hallucinates.”
