the incessant need to try and have a "moral" reason for just not liking these shows by going "well its not really INDIE anymore because... merchandise... oooooo..." makes it extra annoying, like i promise you it's fine to just say you don't like a show. doesn't mean it isn't indie animation. 😭

if anything its treated more like competitive sports given i saw a lot of people riffing on del Toro like "well guess animation isn't cinema guys, hyuck hyuck!" when both Digital Circus's finale and the Gameoverse pilot released to mixed responses. feels so reductive.

Digital Circus's big theatrical screening for the finale (something a lot of recent anime among other things have been doing for season or series premieres got a bit) causing the online Third Impact kinda tells me a lot of people don't really respect indies as true art that deserves engagement.
