We do need textile recycling. Its not jus reusable bags, its worn clothing, torn bedding, etc. We need to try to recycle everything possible. Check out terracycle.com , this is their goal.

I lived in Germany for two years in the 1960s, and all stores there charged you for a bag, which was always Americans. The Germans brought their own bags, which I started doing and have done it since. It's for the enviornment. And I hate the amount of plastic that items come in & I must throw away.😢

Single use plastic bags are a major pollution problem globally. If you think about it, there are two kinds of pollution, some that is bad for the Earth, and some that is offensive to your eyes. Seeing a pile of garbage on the ground doesn't incense people as much as seeing it up on trees. In Maine

I agree, they were a major pollution problem. But the retailer could have easily replaced them with paper bags. Why put the cost on the consumer to find a way to get their goods home? Garbage in any form, anywhere, that's not in a trash bin incenses me. So do cigarette buts on the ground.

The paper bag is still garbage. Again, the point is to stop generating a need for a new bag every time you go to a retailer, bring your reusable bags everywhere you shop for anything. The fee is to encourage you to stop using even the paper bags so that we're not generating single use garbage.
