@lingfengmeng.bsky.social🧬 Can we predict whether a population will go extinct or recover from its genome? In our new paper, led by Johanna Winder, we combine forward simulations and machine learning to ask how genomics could inform extinction and recovery potential doi.org/10.1111/eva.... #consgen #PopGen #evolution
Show PostWith some fellow genomicists at a museum. Someone immediately suggests piecing together these pots is like genome assembly, another chimes in, pointing at the big pot, that even here centromeres are hard.
Show Post🦇 Bat1K takes the cover of Nature! A landmark study brings together 103 chromosome-level reference genomes across all 21 living bat families, offering new insights into bat evolution and biogeography. 🧬 Check it out today: www.nature.com/articles/s41... #Bat1K #BiodiversityGenomics #batevolution
Show Post🧵 Out today in Nature Communications! How did an ancient reshuffling of the genome shape 3D genome architecture and gene regulation in squid, cuttlefish & octopus? 🦑🐙 We combined Micro-C, RNA-seq & ATAC-seq across species, developmental stages & tissues. doi.org/10.1038/s41467-026-77625-7
Show PostWe also used CRISPR in Euprymna berryi to delete a conserved ~1 kb intronic sequence in a coleoid-specific loop containing neural genes. Many knockout embryos had smaller neural tissues, and genes linked to the loop several Mb away were downregulated, consistent with very long-range regulation.
