I just came to your profile looking for this thread because I have been thinking about it since you first posted it (and trying to write out my own thoughts). I keep encountering students who show up for research appointments with genAI-generated topics/questions and we immediately get stuck because

I recently worked with a student who was dead-set on narrowing the focus of their research by looking into a 20-year-old apartment development in a wealthy suburb... because that's what ChatGPT recommended
