The designer has been playing around with monster Defense and Armor in his revision of the game but player defense is apparently perfectly fine and unlikely to change. It’s frustrating because it seems so close to being perfect.

In Nimble rather than an Armor Class, because there’s no to-hit roll and just a straight up damage roll, you have a Defense score instead. It reduces some of the damage you take. However it takes a Defend action to use it. If you don’t use that action, your armor does nothing.
