1/2 We keep pet Mice. We control everything about their enclosure, enrichment, diet, who they live with and bring them to the vet if we are worried about them (mostly as they age). You would think such complete control over their lives would give someone a sense of God like omnipotence.

2/2 But as I watch their petty disputes over who gets to be queen mouse and their tiny lifespans rushing like sand through my fingers, and I mostly feel intensely impotent. I am an atheist, but it makes me wonder what it would be like to be God observing humans. The heartbreaking helplessness of it.
