Rita Tewari @ritatewari.bsky.social presented the unconventional mitosis in the malaria parasite. The Aurora-related kinase ARK1 is part of a highly divergent chromosomal passenger complex, whereas ARK2 interacts with EB1 and Myosin-K. #SpindleCroatia2026

Check out this new work from @ckylau.bsky.social and @ritatewari.bsky.social labs on proteins that bridge Plasmodium cytoskeleton and it's motility apparatus. Congrats to all authors!!

We look into whether the three GAPMs work together or separately, and look at whether their localisation and binding partners changes in different life cycle stages. I'm immensely proud of this work, led by Akancha Mishra from @ritatewari.bsky.social's lab and Giedre Ratkeviciute from ours.

Now in Nature Comms w/ @ritatewari.bsky.social, Pushkar Sharma & @ryanase.bsky.social (thanks!). Aurora kinases fascinate me: single ancestor - parallel duplications in eukaryotes - paralogs with distinct functions. ARK1 is the CPC Aurora in the malaria parasite. rdcu.be/e5NRT #plasmodium #mitosis

New preprint! Really excited to share our spatial proteomic study on Plasmodium falciparum schizonts . We used hyperLOPIT to map thousands of proteins—from apical invasion organelles to the infected red blood cell surface.
