Yes, I seriously do think a straight lady from the 1800's would get it. She gave up aristocracy to marry an incredibly skilled gardener, and that clearly meant she was into listening to a nerd talk about a lifeform with wildly diverse sexes. She'd have to learn the words but she liked learning.
