this whole thread is chef's kiss.
Show PostI just don't think it's "sad" that folks might be more introverted, or want to socialize in less vulnerable ways - like reading a book and engaging socially with a fandom in online forums. Our IRL society is dangerous and sucks shit. Concern trolling that people don't wanna be social doesn't help.
Show PostI wanna ask people who think it's necessary or valuable to go to the gym/pub/restaurant/venue with buds: Why? Is it the class signaling of showing you can spend money to see/be seen consuming little treats? What extra social benefit do you think you get that I don't from vTTRPG or virtual tea time?
Show PostProbably not a popular opinion, but I really feel like people who freak out about the social vs solo study and the so-called "death of hosting" are basically admitting that they conflate social consumption/vampirism with friendship. Screens vs Social is also the most Boomer framing I've ever seen.
Show PostGetting really tired of seeing people blame the economy, or the pandemic, or screens, or work from home, or whatever convenient external reason people want to point at as the source of their dissatisfaction, loneliness, or skill issues. Yes, we're social creatures, but social =/= good automatically.
